BB021-COURIER/MAIL BAG This is on old mid to late 1800's bag that looks to have been used for carring mail or other kinds of documents. The bag is roughly fourteen by fourteen square with a shoulder strap that is about 40 inches in overall length . The strap also has a small chain fastened to it for additional protection. The mid section of the bag is a canvas like material with the top, flaps, straps and bottom being leather. The bag side of the bags looks much darker which may mean it was either carried against a persons body horses body that did sweat causing the darker color. I was told by the seller that it was a Pony Express bag, but I really do not think it is. It has no such markings and does not appear to be built strong enough to make those trips across the USA from Missouri to California. However, it may not be Pony Express but it is a neat and unusual bag. RESERVE: $250Picture

BB024-OLD OAK KNIFE CASE. This oak knive case appears to have held a carving set in the lid portion and knives and forks in the bottom portion. There is a ivory tag fastened to the lower left hand corner of inside of the lid that states : "WOSTENHOLM'S" "CELEBRATED CUTLERY" "SHEFFIELD" on three lines. There was an insert on the top of the lid that has been removed and a womans picture has been put in its place. The box is 16 inches long, 5 3/4 inches wide and 2 1/2 inches deep. It is in good shape. The Sheffield, without the England added to the tag combined with the appearance of the patina of the box gives impression that it was made prior to the early 1890's change in marking goods, i.e. adding country of origin. Too bad the cutlery is missing. RESERVE: $150Picture
