EW202-MAJESTIC BUTCHER KNIFEA similar knife is pictured in the book entitled The Knife in Homespun America by Madison Grant. The calls it a Majestic Butcher Knife. Grant states that the butcher knife started very early in history. He referes to this style as having few equals and stated it was great for farming or fighting. Farm Butchering was a strandard chore, partiicular in the fall, and warfare has never knows seasonal boudaries. The knife measures 15 -5/8th inches in overall length with the blade being 11 inches. It has brass mountings and the handle terminates in a rudimentary bird head that is capped in brass buttons, as is the one he is describing in his book. The knive is in good shape and has a good balanced feel to it. PRICE: $995.Picture

EW194-LARGE BOWIE KNIFEThis is interesting old bowie type fighting knife. It has a 13 inch blade, brass guard, horn handle, brass rivets to hold handle and brass end caps. The handle is 5 inches making the overall length 18 inches. The blade has that V cut near the grip. I have seen that cut on large antique fighting knives. I have been told its purpose is to catch the blade of the opponent in the fight. If someone knows another reason for that cut, let me know. The blade has designs on both sides. On one side is the word OLD PIRATE with scrolls. The other side has a rattle snake with 5 rattles that extends almost the entire length of the blade. I have tried to capture those pictures but just cannot seem to get them to show up very well in the picture. It does have a Southwestern style look but there is not a maker mark. It is a very neat old knive. Never seen one quite like it before. PRICE: $1285Picture

EW191-RIO GRANDE CAMP KINEF, SCABBARD & CASE This is a fine example of a Rio Grande Camp Knife by William Jackson's Sheaf Island Works in Sheffield, England. It is 14 BD" in length with a 9 BE" blade. It is in its correct sheath which is missing its' button and tip. It comes in a period cutlery case which has been modified to accept the knife. The refit is of high quality. This bowie knife has a place of some infamy in American history. One of the same size and by the same maker was carried by John Wilkes Booth when he killed Abraham Lincoln. Booth stabbed the army officer with Lincoln and brandished it after he jumped off the balcony onto the stage. The knife was captured with Booth and now rests in the collection at Ford's Theater in Washington, D.C. This knife we offer is in no way related to Booth. It is a truly fine example of a famous American bowie knife. This knife has honest wear. It has considerable sharpening and untouched patina. The stag grip is solid and the plaque is present. The scabbard is strong and is not flaking. PRICE:$5995Picture

EW187-MICHAEL PRICE PUSH DAGGERThis is a push dagger from the great San Francisco knife maker Michael Price. It is 8-3/4 inches long with an ebony handle. It is in very good condition with a tiny bit of pitting on the tip which can barely be seen. The scabbard has iron mounts which are nickel plated as is the knife. The leather is in good flexible shape and is hand sewn down the back. The handle shows a lot of gentle wear to one side and the plate is worn off the bolster of the knife just below the grip. The Michael Price San Francisco mark is off center like all I have seen from this maker,. It is a good strong strike and looks just right. This knive has a very unusual form. I have seen others from other makers but this is not the typical more simple form. The handle turns a little which I have not tried to fix. PRICE: $7450Picture

EW185-SPANISH COLONIAL ESPADA ANCHAThis is a neat short sword (overall length 21-1/4 inches) that was reportedly recovered from a Mexican soldier after the battle where Santa Anna surrendered to Sam Houston shortly after Santa Annas victory at the Alamo. No documentatin to prove that other than what was told to me by the seller. I hate to not pass on stories about old items whether I put value in them or not. If I could prove that statement the price would be a lot higher. There is writing in Spahish on the blade. I was told it said something about a Saint but the reader could not say for sure what Saint. The markings were made with a sharp punch like object being hit against the blade. I have seen this style of markings in antique items before. They were apparently made by someone who has a lot of time on their hands. The top of the blade has indentions indicating it was used to hit many hard objects. It is an interesting old piece. It is the kind of item that could of been carried by the Presidio Soldatos or almost anyone else in the New Spain. It looks like it could have been used in a lot of battles. PRICE: $750Picture

The stag is perfect, light scuffing on the sheath but it is complete and intact. The blade is very good with a light pitting in one area. It may have been lightly buffed by some person but it retains most of its glaze. This knife is very large and unsharpened and is a very fine example of the adventurers side knife of the 19th century.
